How to stock coffee shops for sale: fair trade or not?

Coffee has, in the last few years, certainly overtaken tea as the most popular drink in the UK. With a vast array of coffee shops for sale up and down the country, it’s the perfect time to get involved in a booming industry.

One of the benefits of working in the coffee industry is that you will normally find yourself in a customer facing environment so you’ll be able to socialise and meet people as part of your everyday work.

Everyone loves high quality hot drinks, and the empty coffee shops for sale which you see on the high street tend to be the result of poorly trained staff or a substandard drink. But could it be that fair trade coffee and it not being available would put people odd?

Is Fairtrade Any Better?

We all know that the idea of Fairtrade is a good one. All those involved in the cooperative will receive more money than they would have otherwise, and better working conditions as well. But does that affect the coffee?

Should Coffee Shops For Sale Go Fairtrade?

There’s no reason why the coffee would be any different when it comes to quality. There’s no rules about the quality of the beans, it’s a process which is about humanitarian standards and not getting the best coffee for the consumer.

While the product is unlikely to sell if it’s no good, you might find that you simply prefer a cheaper option. It’s all a game of trial and error and working out what is most popular with your customers.

It’s hard to say whether Fairtrade produce is really any better – in some cases it has always been argued that it can limit the earnings of workers and those who aren’t part of a cooperative actually make more from their labour.

What is known though is Fairtrade is popular with consumers; every year it’s been available, more and more people have bought it. There’s been an increase of products available as well, with almost everything imaginable now available in a Fairtrade option (for a premium, of course).

25 percent of all coffee sold in the UK is now Fairtrade, so whether it’s a humanitarian choice or a way of consumers making themselves feel better and a new marketing technique, there is definitely weight in the Fairtrade market.

So, if you’re looking at investing in coffee shops for sale, would you stock Fairtrade?
